Iron Chef Goes Coastal 2012 Winners!

The winners of the fifth annual Iron Chef Goes Coastal were Cannon Beach competitors Will Leroux of the Wayfarer Restaurant and Aaron Bedard of Stephanie Inn.

The annual event is a fundraiser for United Way of Clatsop County. Each year, the previous year’s Iron Chef winners, chosen by a panel of judges, and the People’s Choice winners draw knives to form two competing teams.

Leroux passed the torch to fellow Wayfarer chef Josh Archibald.

Bedard and Archibald will draw knives with this year’s People’s Choice winners—Chris Holen of Baked Alaska Restaurant in Astoria and Sebastian Carosi of Pickled Fish in Longbeach, Wash.—to form new teams.

All food is donated by Food Services of America and the participating restaurants and chefs donate their time to the event, so 100 percent of the money raised benefits United Way of Clatsop County and its 12 partner agencies.

More than 500 people attended the event. Organizers said it was very successful and raised $35,000 for United Way of Clatsop County plus an additional $10,000 matching grant from US Bank.

The event also received a $10,000 matching grant from US Bank.

Iron Chef Goes Coastal 2012

Iron Chef Goes Coastal 2012
The 5th Annual Iron Chef Goes Coastal—sponsored by US Bank—will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13 at the Seaside
Convention Center. 2011 Iron Chef winners, William Leroux of the Wayfarer Restaurant & Lounge and John
Newman of Newmans at 988, will draw knives with the 2011 People‘s Choice Award Winners, Astoria Coffeehouse
& Bistro and Stephanie Inn, forming two new teams to compete in a timed duel for the coveted 2012 Iron Chef
Title. Come be part of this exciting competition while sampling delectable bites and casting your votes for the 2012
“People’s Choice” tasting and “People’s Dessert of Clatsop County”. Due to the generous amount of time and food
donated by FSA and the participating restaurants 100% of all proceeds benefit United Way of Clatsop County and
it’s agencies.
Again this year a judge position will be auctioned off to the highest bidder. For the “People’s Choice” award you get to be the judge, by visiting each restaurant and casting your vote. After the votes are tallied, the top two restaurants will be announced and qualify as competitors in the 2013 Iron Chef Competition. Don’t forget dessert…again you get to be the judge for the “People’s Dessert Choice” where local pastry chefs compete for “Best Dessert of Clatsop County.” Door opens @5pm for silent auction and reserved seating. General admission door opens @6pm. Competition GONG sounds at 7pm.
The first Iron Chef Goes Coastal event was held in 2008. It has grown each year to attract more guests and raise more money for local United Way agencies. Chloe Houser of FOX12 Oregon of PDX TV and local Chef Geoff Gunn will EMCEE the event.
